Honoring 9/11 on Its 25th Anniversary — A Message from Tiny Hearts Childcare

Twenty-five years ago today, New York City changed forever. The world watched as our skyline was altered, our streets fell silent, and nearly 3,000 lives were taken in a matter of hours. For those of us who call this city home — who raised families here, built businesses here, and chose to stay here — September 11th is not a date on a calendar. It is a wound that healed into something deeper: a permanent awareness of what this city is made of, and what it is capable of.

At Tiny Hearts Childcare, we pause today to honor every life lost. Every first responder who ran toward the towers. Every family that woke up that morning not knowing it would be their last ordinary day together. Every child who grew up without a parent because of what happened in those hours. We remember them. We will always remember them.

A City That Chose to Keep Going

What happened after September 11th is as much a part of the story as the day itself. New York City grieved — loudly, collectively, without apology. And then it got back up. Firehouses that lost entire companies kept their doors open. Families who lost everything rebuilt. Communities that were shaken chose, again and again, to hold each other.

The Bronx — our home — was no exception. This borough has always known how to carry weight without being crushed by it. The resilience that defined New York City in the weeks and months after 9/11 is the same resilience that defines our neighborhoods today. It is passed down quietly, through the way parents show up for their children, the way neighbors look out for one another, and the way communities like ours refuse to be defined by their hardest moments.

The Children We Serve Were Born Into This World

The children in our care today were not alive on September 11, 2001. They are growing up in a New York City that was permanently shaped by that day — a city that learned, at an enormous cost, how precious ordinary life is.

Part of what we do at Tiny Hearts Childcare is help lay the foundation for who these children will become. We teach them kindness, empathy, and how to be part of a community. We help them develop the emotional tools to navigate a world that is sometimes hard and unpredictable. We show them, every single day, that they are safe, that they are valued, and that the people around them can be trusted.

That work feels more meaningful today than ever.

To the Families Who Lost Someone

If you lost someone on September 11th — a parent, a spouse, a sibling, a friend, a neighbor — we want you to know that their memory is held with care in this city. Twenty-five years is a long time. It is also no time at all when you are carrying that kind of loss.

We see you. We honor them. And we are grateful, every day, to be part of a city that does not forget.

New York City. Still Standing.

There is something that does not get said enough on days like today: New York City is one of the most extraordinary places on earth, not in spite of what happened on September 11th, but in part because of how this city responded to it. The courage, the compassion, the stubbornness to rebuild — that is the DNA of this city.

It is the DNA of the Bronx. And it is the spirit we try to carry into everything we do at Tiny Hearts Childcare.

To our families, our staff, and our community — thank you for being part of something that matters. Hug your children a little tighter today. Tell the people you love that you love them. And take a moment, if you can, to simply be grateful for this ordinary, extraordinary day.

Never forget. Never stop building. New York City, always.
